In 1873, the City and County of New York, the City of Brooklyn, the counties of Kings, Richmond and part of Queens, be united as one under the name City of New York. The parts of Queens to be included into the municipality were; Long Island City, and the towns of Flushing, Newtown and Jamaica.

Fire protection for the new borough of Queens came from nine paid companies of the Long Island City Fire Department, along with fifteen volunteer fire departments with a total of sixty-three companies. In 1907 the disbandment volunteers continued in Queens. |

Jamaica and Richmond Hill were selected as the second step (the Rockaways being the first step) of installing the paid department into the borough of Queens. This area had been served by a total of fourteen volunteer companies. Chief Thomas Larkin was assigned to organize the 50th Battalion. On July 5, 1907, the 50th Battalion along with Engine Company 170, Hose Companies 2,3,4,5,6 & 7 and Ladder Companies 75, 76 & 77 were organized.
Hose Company 3, formerly known as Resolute Hose Co. 5, was located at 61 Bandman Ave. (now known as 146-39 105 Ave.). Ladder Company 76, formerly known as FQ Vol. Jamaica Hook and Ladder 3 was located at 98 Irving Place (now known as 97-22 Cresskill Place). On January 1 1913 Ladder Company 76 was reorganized as Ladder Company 126. On July 15, 1922, Hose Co. 3 was reorganized as Engine Company 303. On February 19 1931 both companies would move into a newly constructed firehouse at 104-12 Princeton Street with the 13th Division. On October 12 1931, the 13th Division would move to 97-22 Cresskill Place.
