For more than 125 years, 7601 Hamilton Avenue has been home to some of the best firefighters the City of Pittsburgh has ever produced. The original firehouse opened in 1900 and faithfully served the Homewood neighborhood until 1953, when the current station opened its doors atop of the same foundation that had supported generations before it.

Today, Engine and Truck 17 continue that proud tradition, responding to more than 4,000 calls annually and consistently ranking among the city's busiest companies for working fires. For generations, the station has been more than just a firehouse; it has been a gathering place, a symbol of service, and a constant presence in the lives of those who call Homewood home. |

The legacy of 17 is carried forward each day under the watchful eyes of Thomas Brooks, Marc Kolenda, and Patricia Conroy, who made the ultimate sacrifice while assigned to Engine 17 on February 14, 1995. Their courage, dedication, and sacrifice remain woven into the fabric of this firehouse and continue to inspire every firefighter who walks through its doors.
